Reliance Jio Launch! A catalyst for OTT in India?

Reliance has placed its Ace Card by launching Reliance Jio. The market is predicting it as taking over Indian OTT (Over The Top) Market.

Let us look at some aspects of it and understand what Reliance Jio is:
Reliance Jio will offer services which will be app based JioPlay, Jio VoiD, Jio Beats, Jio Security. It will work on 4G Technology but Jio has offered its customers’ most affordable service all across the world. Getting Internet data has always been difficult for Indian Clients due to bad infrastructure. Now Jio has come up with schemes where it is offering 1GB data at Rs 50.

In this package, hey can make voice calls which are supposed to be free of cost and thus it threatens the existing companies like Vodafone, Airtel etc. which get major revenue from their voice calls. Reliance has announced the scheme with the well-planned strategy. Their Smartphone Lyf is coming with LTE (Long Term Evolution) as lowest as RS 2,999 and a wifi router at 1,999.

As promotional offer Reliance Jio is offering initial Jio Customers unlimited Free Data Access in which they can download movies, live music and watch TV channels live and this is applicable till 31st December 2017.
Where the OTT video subscribers were just in the phase of setting in the market with their services. Reliance Jio comes as a blow to them who were providing those Data Services. Reliance Jio pulled off a great move successfully by giving data which was expensive early now the customers will spend more time being engaged in content on their phones. They wish to catch up with their favourite shows on the go. Even the one’s working on Freemium Model in OTT were either planning or were already on verge of getting some pay from the subscribers but with less pay when a client will get to browse maximum content on the net, they would prefer this service than individually paying for availing different services.

The Date Traffic will move from incumbent operators to the “Free” Reliance Jio Network. Reliance Jio will bring in the race even the users who were initially having inhibition to use data, hence the OTT market will definitely see more consumers with the data being given to them in an affordable bracket.

Though Reliance Jio has promoted itself as free voice calling services, it may soon plan to launch its own OTT or VoIP services.

As of now for them, only low data packages can play a major role and the OTT play a breather for them.
The Reliance Jio Play will have around 300 TV Channels with 30 or more HD ones and be spreading across 15 languages, hence covering almost all major areas of the country. They will allow users to mark their favourites and personalization option. It’s on Demand service will also help the consumer ask for its favourite Bollywood or any other music number or videos be provided to them which can even be Ad-Free. The app will come with a seamless connection to wireless devices.

Even the news can be watched or read on the App and will also allow to copy, highlight and search within the newspaper.

Thus, a lot of promising future that Reliance Jio has shown to its much-awaited customers, the country is hoping and looking forward to digitisation and transformation with current control of the content going from broadcaster to consumers’ hand.
